Additional Accomplishments and Initiatives

  • Substance Abuse Intervention Program (SAIP) with Va. Beach Schools to keep students from being expelled, getting them back into school after intervention and saving the school district $600,000 a year. Established in 1998, this program has helped 200 students a year are given a second chance. This program received the prestigious Virginia Municipal League award as the most cost saving and innovative program of the year.

  • Helped draft the B.P.O.L. bill that was adopted into law by the Virginia Legislature in 2011 to give starting businesses a 2 year tax abatement -2011
  • Historic Property tax break bill that went state wide to give incentives to preserve historic properties – 2011
  • Developed the Students on the Swim Program to provide swimming lessons to at-risk schools, named the best new program by the Va Society of Recreation and Parks in 2015
